This telescope is the perfect combination of a large Newtonian mirror (also called a reflector telescope) with a short focal length. The more experienced astronomer will know that light collection is a more important factor than magnification. These people will appreciate the large 114mm mirror that is able to collect and reflect a significant portion of the light.
